Ankle Sporting Braces

An Ankle Sporting Brace, is a pull-on strap style brace, which is worn around the ankle to promote immobilisation, while allowing it to heal from sprains and other minor injuries.

Ankle Braces should be worn from anywhere from 10 days to six weeks, which is dependent on the severity of your injury. You should continue to wear the Ankle Brace for as long as swelling, pain or instability in the ankle is experienced.

Studies show that an Ankle Brace used by athletes lowers the incidence of acute Ankle Injuries, however an Ankle Brace will not heal an injury in the Ankle, should the injury be severe. Sporting Ankle Braces are designed to fit comfortably in a persons’ shoes to provide extra support during sports or general activities throughout the day.

After an operation or in the event of slight sprains or repeated overloading, the ligaments of the foot are often weakened and require increased stabilisation, which is provided by our range of BioSport ankle wear. The active support with individually adjustable strap systems gives your ankle reliable support even whilst in motion and protects against the lateral twisting of the foot.

What makes a good Ankle Sporting Brace?

As there are several types of Ankle Braces available on the market, you must determine which Ankle Brace is right for you, and the BioSport Ankle Brace provides the following key benefits:

  • Increased stability of the ankle on the move
  • Breathable material for high wearing comfort
  • Ideal for sport thanks to the protection against lateral twisting

Can an Ankle Brace Weaken the Ankle?

Ankle braces function by locking down the joint, and for people who suffer from weak ankles from an injury, then a Sporting Ankle Brace is very effective in limiting motion during rehabilitation.

However, an Ankle Brace should not be worn every day for injury prevention, as you will be more likely to weaken your ankle from the consistent use. As recommended, a Sporting Ankle Brace should only be worn during the designated rehabilitation period.

How to strengthen your Ankles

As Ankle Braces are designed to provide support to your Ankles during the healing process, or when you may be playing sport where you may need that extra bit of support, it is also recommended to implement strengthening exercises to ensure your ankles have every opportunity to not only recover, but also get stronger.

The following tips are recommended to Strengthen your ankle:

  • Apply Sporting Tape
  • Flexibility Exercises
  • Strengthening Exercises
  • Balancing Exercises

By combining these techniques in conjunction with an Ankle Sporting Support Brace, you will be able to not only provide support to your injured ankle, but you will help your Ankle injury heal.

Elbow Sporting Braces

An Elbow Sporting Brace, is a wrap-around strap style brace. The elbow sporting brace helps to relieve tendon pain such as tennis elbow (epicondylitis lateral) and similar muscle and tendon attachment site irritation or inflammation. Its integral pressure cushion (pad) relieves pressure on the tendon attachments at precisely the right points. It can be worn on either the left or the right arm.

Studies show that the use of an elbow brace helps to reduce pain and improves grip strength for athletes who suffer from tennis elbow. Such athletes that suffer from this condition include Golfers and Tennis players. The elbow sporting brace effectively works by absorbing the pain as a result from the force that would normally be transmitted from the elbow injury.

Do elbow braces help with elbow tendonitis?

The short answer is YES!

When athletes wear an Elbow Sporting Brace, they may feel some pain be alleviated which may be associated with elbow tendonitis. The Sporting Elbow Brace helps by applying pressure to the muscles and as a result, helps to stabilize the affected area in the elbow, when the elbow brace is worn.

How should the elbow brace be applied?

The elbow brace is a strap which should be wrapped around the forearm, approximately 6 cm from the top of the elbow. The elbow brace should be applied over the largest part of the muscles on the back of the forearm. The strap should then be tightened in this position and it should not be tightened too tight. It should be comfortable to wear, without cutting off the blood circulation to the arm.

Elbow Braces work a little differently from Knee or Back support braces, as they do not hold the elbow in place, as this would not allow the arm or elbow to move freely. They work by applying pressure to the affected area, to ultimately help relieve pain.

What makes a good Elbow Sporting Brace?

There are many types of elbow braces on the market, but when determining which elbow brace is the right choice for you, you should consider elbow braces which provide the following key benefits:

  • Is made using Nano Technology
  • Individually adaptable for the perfect fit
  • Manufactured under strict Australian Guidelines
  • It is light, elastic and breathable
  • One that provides increased stability during movement
  • Easy to take on and off
  • Provides security and may help to relieve pain
  • Antibacterial, Hypo-allergenic, heat trapping and deodorizing abilities

A Back-Support Brace, is a wrap-around brace, that support and align the lumbar spine and relieve the intervertebral discs. Additionally, the Back-Support Brace may also provide a level of pain relief, as a result from the support it provides to affected areas, which may be injured. The Back-Support Brace should be worn, in the event of pain in the lumbar spine (lumbar vertebral syndrome) or moderate muscle weakness.

Biomed manufacture Back Support Braces, here in Sydney Australia and have been manufacturing medical grade fabrics for more than 30 years. The Nanoparticles are woven into the fabric, and provide many health benefits to the person, which can be viewed by clicking here.

There are many debates as to whether Back Brace Supports help with back pain, because back braces also affect mobility of the back, but whilst the back-support brace helps to protect the lumbar spine and muscles around the back, whilst doing so reduces the load on the spine, hence reducing pressure and pain associated with the injury.

What makes a good Back Support Brace?

Back Support Braces should provide not only comfort and support to your lumbar region, but should also be safe from attracting bacteria. Biomed manufacture their Back Support Sporting braces using Nano Technologies, and provide the following key benefits to their clients.

  • Is made using Nano Technology
  • Individually adaptable for the perfect fit
  • Manufactured under strict Australian Guidelines
  • It is light, elastic and breathable
  • One that provides increased stability during movement
  • Provides protection against lateral twisting
  • Easy to take on and off
  • Provides security and may help to relieve pain
  • Antibacterial, Hypo-allergenic, heat trapping and deodorising abilities

The best back supports available are generally the Anatomically contoured corsets, which stay at the rear of the orthosis support of the back while an individually adjustable compression acts upon the lumbar spine to control motion and limit pain. It is easy to adapt to individual body shapes providing the perfect fit.

Back Support Braces can be worn all day, especially if you are lifting with your back, as this can cause pain and injury. Additionally, if you are sitting for long periods of time, it is advised to wear your back-support brace if you are sedentary for long hours, as keeping a correct posture will result in less tension in your lower back. However, it is highly recommended by physicians that you should always stand up and move around every 20-30 minutes or so.

In some cases, your Physician will recommend you use your back support brace all day, if you just had surgery and you need that extra support. Having said that, Physicians also recommend that you should not try to rely upon back-support brace, to mask the pain of an injury which may need further investigation.

It is also not recommended that back support braces are worn during sleep, nor should you wear a back-support brace whilst swimming. This is because during these times, there is no pressure or load applied to the muscles or joints, and during sleep is when healing may be promoted.

CPAP Companies that produce CPAP Equipment?

If you were to search for CPAP companies, that manufacture or sell CPAP equipment, you will be immediately faced with a never-ending list of CPAP companies, that all seem to offer very similar products and services. So how do you know which CPAP companies to trust and which are the reputable ones?

CPAP companies, one of which is Resmed, who is a leading CPAP company, provide a wide range of CPAP Machines to cater for all Sleep Apnea conditions, and are brands which are well-respected, for their high-quality CPAP products in the market place. Resmed incorporate high-quality medical grade fabrics for use in their CPAP equipment, which provides patients with Allergen Free Fabric as it encourages patient comfort and a healthy alternative to lesser known brands.

When selecting a CPAP company for your CPAP equipment, you must also look at their CPAP accessories and how readily available they may be, as there are a number, of CPAP consumables which patients will require for their ongoing use of their CPAP machine. To ensure that you get the most out of your CPAP equipment, and this means ensuring your CPAP machine provides the best treatment, you must replace your CPAP accessories or parts as they are required.

CPAP companies that provide a wide range of Sleep Apnea equipment for their patients, demonstrate, that there are specific products for specific patient requirements. For example, patients who need a product to reduce snoring throughout the night, would require a CPAP Chin Strap product. Whereas patients who suffer tremendously from their Sleep Apnea, would require a CPAP Full Face Mask, as this would provide dramatic improvements for the patients sleep quality, and as a result would eliminate their snoring to make them feel more well rested.

Brands like Resmed, rely heavily on their CPAP suppliers, to ensure they uphold their well-respected brand name in the market place. Companies like Biomed, will only use Antibacterial Fabric in their CPAP equipment, as they are a market leader in the Medical Fabric Textile Industry. It is with this rationale that Biomed remain committed to ensuring patients receive the best possible result from their CPAP equipment.

CPAP companies like Resmed, give consumers confidence in their CPAP equipment and CPAP accessories, as they know how important it is for the overall well-being of their patients to rely on products which can help manage their Sleep Apnea illness.

Biomed is a CPAP company, who manufacturers medical grade fabric which is used to manufacture CPAP chin straps and CPAP headgear equipment for Resmed, and their longstanding partnership with ResMed ensures maximum comfort and reliability for patients. For more information on our full range of CPAP Equipment or other medical grade fabrics, please do not hesitate to contact the professional Biomed team on (02) 9758 3855.

What is the best CPAP equipment for patients?

Patients that suffer from Sleep Apnea often require CPAP Equipment which is short for (Continuous positive airway pressure – CPAP). This kind of device is used for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea. A CPAP machine utilises a hose which is connected to a mask or nosepiece to deliver an ongoing flow of air pressure to the patient.

Ultimately, the best type of CPAP Equipment, are the ones that provide patient comfort and reliability for unobstructive airflow.

In order, to determine what is the best CPAP Equipment available for patients that suffer from Sleep Apnea, first you must look at, it is important to consider the following:

CPAP Masks which fit correctly

A common problem that patients are faced with when using CPAP Masks, are ones which don’t fit correctly, and this issue must be addressed as soon as possible, as not all CPAP Masks are designed to fit the varying shapes and contours of a patients face.

Additionally, there are a number, of CPAP masks which cover the entire face, which are called Full Face CPAP Masks. Other types of masks which cover just the nasal passage are called Nasal Pillow Masks, and these are designed for people that may feel a full-face mask is uncomfortable and makes them feel claustrophobic. However, Nasal Pillow masks may not be the correct choice for people who move around a lot throughout the night, as they can become tangled and may come off more easily.

Only use an Antibacterial Fabric in your CPAP Equipment

Antibacterial fabrics are designed to provide patients many health benefits. For example; Antibacterial CPAP Fabric last longer and ensures fungi and other bacteria don’t build up on the fabric, as this could lead to other health related issues.

There are many types of Antibacterial Fabrics used in CPAP Chin Straps and CPAP Masks, and they provide patients peace of mind and comfort.

Only buy a reputable CPAP Machine

Sometime patients may feel that a less expensive CPAP machine is the best way to go, because they may save some money. However, this is certainly not the case. It is advised that you buy CPAP equipment from reputable companies such as Resmed to name one. Resmed is a leading name in the Sleep Apnea sector and they provide extremely effective CPAP Equipment specifically designed for patient comfort.

You should also ensure that when purchasing a CPAP Machine, you buy it new and it comes with a good warranty, as it is more than likely that your CPAP Machine will require regular servicing and this can sometimes be a little expensive, if outside warranty periods.

Ultimately the best CPAP machine is the one that provides the patient a good night sleep with a minimal amount of discomfort. Therefore, it is wise to consider a couple of other items as follows:

How noisy is the machine?

It is hard enough to sleep at the best of times, but with the added pressure of sleeping with something foreign on your face, it is important that the noise is kept to a minimum. An effective machine will make little noise, so it is very important to consider this in your decision-making process.

Does it have an inbuilt Humidifier?

By having a humidifier in your CPAP machine, ensures that the air travelling from the machine into your mouth and noise, don’t cause your airways to become dry and as a result irritates your airways.

Is your CPAP Machine Portable?

Portability is an important consideration should you travel frequently or if you move around a lot, so consider a CPAP Machine that is light weight and portable.

Does it have an Exhalation pressure relief?

This type of feature is extremely important as this ensure that patients don’t have to struggle with the breath they exhale not feeling forced, as it is being pushed against the pressure of the air coming in from the CPAP equipment. It is all about patient comfort and this feature should be a major consideration.

Does your CPAP Machine have Data Recording?

The ability for your CPAP Machine to give you deep data analysis on your sleeping activity is well worth the extra cost, as this can help provide patients with additional information which would enable them to make informed decisions for other Sleep Apnea purchases.

All in all, when purchasing Sleep Apnea Equipment, it is recommended that patients select CPAP Equipment which provides them as much comfort as possible from the Antibacterial Fabrics used in CPAP Chin Straps and CPAP Head Gear, to the CPAP Machines that stay on throughout the night. So only go with a reputable brand who has been in the business of providing patients the highest level of comfort for decades.

At Biomed we are a medical fabric manufacturer who specialise in Antibacterial fabrics which are used to manufacture CPAP chin straps and CPAP headgear equipment, ensuring maximum comfort and reliability for patients. Biomed has a longstanding partnership with ResMed to supply latex free Chin straps and headgear, which has been providing superior patient comfort for decades. For more information on our full range of CPAP Equipment or other medical textiles, please do not hesitate to contact the professional Biomed team on (02) 9758 3855.

Why you should use Antibacterial fabric in your CPAP Accessories?

Antibacterial Fabrics help to destroy or inhibit the growth of microorganisms, especially pathogenic microorganisms which may attach themselves to CPAP Masks or CPAP Headgear products, which are used in the use of Sleep Apnea products and accessories.

If an Antibacterial Fabric layer wasn’t used in Sleep Apnea accessories, the products would be prone to contamination and would ultimately need to be discarded. Microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, protozoas and fungi, including mould, are very common in household fabrics, and can pose a serious problem to peoples’ health. That is why brands like Resmed invest in Antibacterial Fabric applications in all Resmed Headgear straps and Resmed Chin Restraints, to ensure Sleep Apnea patients, enjoy a safe and healthy sleep, whilst using their Sleep Apnea equipment.

By utilising Antibacterial Fabrics in Sleep Apnea products and accessories, extends the life of the fabrics, and constantly fights against microorganisms that pose a health risk.

How to reduce snoring with a chin strap

It is possible to reduce your snoring, and as this might give much needed comfort to those around us that may benefit from you getting a good night sleep, the market is flooded with anti-snoring products, which may all seem great. So how do you know which Chin Strap is the right one for you?

Firstly, you need to understand that a Chin Strap is usually made of fabric and it wraps around the head and cradles the jaw, in-order to keep the patients’ mouth closed during sleep. This reduces snoring considerably.

Although Chin Straps are not a total solution to stop snoring or sleep apnea, statistics show that more than 80% of people are open mouth snorers. So, if you are a Nose Snorer then a chin strap may not be the ideal choice for you as, by design, it primarily works best for Open Mouth Snorers. However, should you require a chin strap to help reduce your snoring, then you may wish to consider the following points:

  • Ask for Resmed Chinstraps, as they use the Biomed patented technology and provide the most comfort for patients
  • Determine how you sleep throughout the night, as an Anti-Snoring Chin Strap, must incorporate high quality Anti-Bacterial Fabric, which is comfortable in design, but also allows the patient to move freely without irritating the skin
  • Use a Medical Grade Fabric, which is strong enough to support the jaw, without being restrictive in feel

By using a Chin Strap to reduce snoring, you may also incur head-aches, as a result from the chin strap being too tight, so be sure to choose a quality Chin Strap that is well suited to your face.

At Biomed we understand the importance of providing comfortable Chin Straps to reduce snoring, and quality latex free chin straps, which are not harmful to patients’ skin.

At Biomed we are a medical fabric manufacturing company, who manufactures durable, lightweight and stretchy hypoallergenic fabrics which are used to manufacture CPAP chin straps, ensuring maximum comfort and reliability for patients. Biomed has a longstanding partnership with ResMed to supply latex free Chin straps and headgear, which has been providing superior patient comfort for decades.
